Archer Push-up

ChestBodyweightAdvanced

A push-up that shifts almost all the load onto one arm by straightening the other out to the side. The usual step on the way to a one-arm push-up.

Doorway Chest Stretch

ChestOtherBeginner

Forearms on a door frame, stepping through to open the chest. The easiest way to undo a day at a desk before a pressing session.

Hindu Push-up

ChestBodyweightBeginner

A sweeping push-up that dives from a downward-dog position through to an upward arch. Pressing strength and shoulder mobility in one movement.

Knee Push-up

ChestBodyweightBeginner

The push-up scaled to roughly half your bodyweight by dropping the knees, so you can build the pattern with full range instead of half-repping the full version.

Pec Deck

ChestMachineBeginner

The seated machine fly. Arms travel in one fixed arc, so the chest can be worked to failure without a spotter and without stabilising a weight overhead.

Typewriter Push-up

ChestBodyweightAdvanced

A wide push-up where you lower to one side, slide across to the other while staying low, and press up. Long time under tension and a serious stretch.

Wall Push-up

ChestBodyweightBeginner

The gentlest push-up there is - hands on a wall, body near upright. A starting point for beginners and a shoulder warm-up for everyone else.

Weighted Push-up

ChestBodyweightBeginner

A push-up with a plate or a weight vest on your back. Keeps push-ups a strength exercise once bodyweight sets get long.
