Cross-Body Shoulder Stretch
Pulling one straight arm across the chest with the other. Thirty seconds of rear delt and upper back relief after a pressing day.
Feet-Elevated Pike Push-up
A pike push-up with the feet up on a box, which tips the press closer to vertical. The last step before a handstand push-up.
Landmine Press
A press along the arc of a landmine bar, somewhere between an overhead press and an incline press. Kind to shoulders that do not like pressing straight overhead.
Machine Lateral Raise
The seated lateral raise machine. The pads keep resistance on the side delt through the whole arc, where dumbbells go nearly weightless at the bottom.
Pike Push-up
A push-up done with the hips high, which tips the pressing angle toward vertical and makes it a shoulder exercise. The bodyweight route to a handstand push-up.
Reverse Pec Deck
The pec deck run backwards, facing into the pad. The most reliable way to load the rear delts, which get almost nothing from pressing and rowing.
Wall Handstand Push-up
A handstand push-up with your heels resting on a wall. The wall handles the balance so all that is left is the pressing.
Wall Walk
Walking your feet up a wall from a plank into a near-handstand and back down. Builds overhead strength and the confidence to be upside down.
